OpenAI launches Admin plugin for ChatGPT Work

OpenAI has released an Admin plugin for ChatGPT Work and Codex, letting workspace administrators query usage data and execute supported changes in a single conversation rather than moving between analytics, settings, and reports.

The plugin exposes Admin Console capabilities as permission-aware tools. Listed tasks include reviewing activity and credit usage across ChatGPT Work and Codex, adding or removing members and updating groups, inspecting effective permissions and controlling feature or model access by role or group, and adjusting usage limits or approving and denying spending requests. OpenAI says the plugin operates within each user's existing role and permissions and does not grant broader access; each instruction maps to a supported read or write action and returns a structured result, with a record of what was requested, whether it completed, and what changed. Higher-impact actions can be reviewed before they are applied.

OpenAI also describes automation: routing pending usage requests to Slack or Microsoft Teams for approval, and auto-granting feature access that meets predefined criteria while escalating exceptions.

Separately, the post reports on OpenAI's own IT team's use of these tools — not the Admin plugin specifically. A ChatGPT Work agent in Slack that triages and actions support tickets resolved roughly 45% of ticket volume "at the time of reporting," and ticket data piped into operational dashboards helped clear a backlog as support volume roughly doubled.
